Ray Schwertner
Ray Schwertner was born
in Temple, Texas, and grew up in Bell County. He attended Texas A&M University
where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree
in marketing.
Mr. Schwertner is currently Electric Utility Director for Garland Power & Light
(GP&L). He began his 38-year career in the electric utility industry at Texas
Power & Light Company. After holding several positions there, Ray served as
Mayor Pro-Tem in Brady, Texas. He became CEO of McCulloch Electric Cooperative,
and held key management roles at the Lower Colorado River Authority. Prior to joining
GP&L, Ray owned a consulting company which specialized in power supply planning
and energy risk management.
In addition to serving on many boards and committees related to electric operations,
Ray has served on the boards of four banks and several Chambers of Commerce, and
presided over the McCulloch County Industrial Foundation. He helped organize the
first CDEC in Central Texas to develop economic opportunities for the region.
Ray and his wife of 38 years, Linda, have three sons and two grandchildren. His
hobbies include working on sports cars and road course racing. He also enjoys watching
college and high school sports.
